Sustainability Statement
At TwinStream, we recognise that our operational activities have environmental consequences. We are committed to conducting our business in a way that duly prioritises our social and corporate responsibilities in respect of sustainability.
Energy and water usage
Through our use of remote collaboration technology, we encourage our people to minimise travel and commuting, and we provide them with tools and support to enable them to do so.
Other than End User Devices, our entire corporate IT infrastructure is cloud-hosted, resulting in environmental economies of scale; we only use what we need, when we need it, meaning that IT infrastructure is never left idling, needlessly wasting energy.
We have reviewed the sustainability position of the cloud service providers that we use and we are satisfied that they are compatible with our corporate responsibilities.
TwinStream does not consume water directly in the conduct of its business.
Accomodation
TwinStream does not retain permanent accommodation, either owned or rented, owing to our default working practice being for our people to work from home or on our clients' premises. We occasionally rent space on an ad-hoc basis to host meetings, workshops and the like. When we do so, we consider the sustainability position of the accommodation provider to ensure that it is compatible with our corporate sustainability responsibilities.
Business Travel
TwinStream encourages its clients and its suppliers to engage using online collaboration tools wherever possible to minimise travel.
We recognise that carbon offsetting is no substitute for avoiding putting carbon into the atmosphere in the first place. Accordingly, we strive to minimise travel, particularly air travel. However, when we absolutely must use a commercial travel provider to conduct our business, we record that travel activity. On an annual basis, we calculate the total “carbon cost” using an online tool such as the Co2nsensus calculator and make a corresponding payment to a Gold Standard carbon offset project.
Where practical, our people use public transport for business travel.
Commuting
We enable and encourage our people to work from home as much as possible to minimise our carbon footprint.
Vehicles
TwinStream does not own any vehicles and we do not operate a company car scheme. We are currently exploring introducing an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme for our employees.
Waste disposal
All of our waste that is recyclable is recycled.
Shipping
We recognise that carbon offsetting is no substitute for avoiding putting carbon into the atmosphere in the first place. Accordingly, we strive to minimise our use of shipping services. However, where we absolutely must use a shipping service in the pursuit of our business, such as to ship an End User Device to one of our people, we record the weight of the package and the distance travelled. On an annual basis, we calculate the total “carbon cost” using an online tool such as the Co2nsensus calculator and make a corresponding payment to a Gold Standard carbon offset project.
Supply chain miles
Our products are software, consultancy and service delivery. Accordingly, we do not have the “supply chain miles” associated with moving physical products that, for example, manufacturing companies or companies that supply physical products might.
Hosting
Sometimes, in the course of our business, we host IT infrastructure on behalf of our clients for the purposes of testing and development. When we do this, we have working practices that ensure the infrastructure is only powered on when it needs to be in order for work to be carried out, and we use data centres with a reported Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25 or better.
Printing
We encourage our people to only print documents when absolutely necessary, and we recycle paper when it is no longer required.
